As a lead-up to IMAF, instructors JoDee Samuelson and Dave Ward will be instructing students as Parkdale Elementary School in Charlottetown on the art of cameraless animation. The films created by students will be screened at the IMAF Special Screening of Kid’s Animations at the Confederation Centre.

These workshops run from April 23 – 26 from 9:30-11:30 am at Parkdale Elementary School in Charlottetown. Open to Parkdale students only.

JoDee Samuelson became an animator, here on PEI. She joined an intensive training course in animation, set up by the Island Media Arts Co-op, using its animation facilities. It was soon realized that she was a national level talent and a natural in the world of animation. Since then, she’s made many film and video productions [drama & documentary], including the national & international award-winning animated film The Bath, followed by animations The Sandbox and Mabel’s Saga [her first computer generated animation], both films winning national and international awards. She continues to work in animation as well as quirky documentaries. At present she is completing a humourous animated short about Charlottetown.

Dave Ward is an independent filmmaker with extensive experience, working within the media arts co-op system, as a director and freelance technician, here on PEI. His directorial credits cover everything from music video, to experimental works, broadcast vignettes, and documentaries. Dave has proved to be an asset on PEI, as a resource person and instructor on aspects of conventional filmmaking, i.e. film cameras, film location sound recording, film sound editing, lighting, etc.  Mr Ward has also had the experience of teaching cameraless animation in Arctic Bay on Baffin Island. Right now, he is completing his own experimental project [titled: One to One] which incorporates cameraless animation.
